Life should be about doing new things, seeing new places and meeting new people. I like to look forward to every day, because I know that something will make today somehow different from yesterday. If my day looks like it is going to become “typical” then I change it.

Very observant point Chloe. Once I met a Monk call Tom working underground to install hundreds of identical pipe joints for the heating system under Stowfield House, Courtfield. Tom was a Junior member of the Mill Hill Fathers who had arrived from Detroit USA, where he had worked in a car factory. Outside the sun was shining amid the beautiful landscape and I therefore asked if he would have been happier back in Detroit. Tom was philosopical and replied that in a few months he would finish the job in hand and would be moved to other work – which was bound to be an improvement. We engage in conversation while he completed more joints and I left him singing to himself. Over the years I often reflect about Tom and whether he had found a secret formula to happiness. Not sure if there is a point in relating about my meeting with Tom – other than he represented a splendid example of how to overcome bordom by being contented within himself.

Some people seem to get “bored “easily but I am not sure that it means anything other than they have nothing to do or are fed up with the same routine everyday. The best way to overcome “boredom” is to find something positive to do or just contact a friend or family member for a chat or just plan a new thing to do everyday.
