Question: You say you will find out what young people want, I wondered how you will do this?

Listening is the most important skill for a councillor. It doesn’t matter if you are dealing with young people or OAPs, people need to know that you are genuinely open to new ideas. Nothing puts people off more than officialdom (including councillors) adopting a condescending, “We have all the answers” attitude.
It is also important to meet people on their own turf where they have a sense of control.
