I think that the answer depends upon the young person themselves. Some are outgoing and love to mix with people of their own age at youth clubs and other organised activities. Others are more introverted and would rather mix with a few close friends or play on their X Box. When I was at school, we used to call into a local café and spend about an hour over a cup of tea on our way home. We would take it in turns to pay for the jukebox. That café was the centre of my universe for a couple of years. What is essential is that we don’t deny young people the opportunity to mix together and have fun.
