However, the Council will continue to provide the services we have to provide, although there may be some changes to the way this is done – such as working jointly with other Local Authorities in Gloucestershire to save money. We are always trying to improve on service delivery, so I’d be interested to know exactly which services interest you most?
This is a very challenging question as until we know what the cuts are we cannot really plan on how to respond.to them. It is so important that young people get together and lobby for what they want and it will be the Champions role to support them in making the case for services.
Similarly to answering a recent question about opportunities – all Councillors should do all in their power to petition District, County and Nationally through their local Member of Parliament. The Questioner is right to place the emphases on quality services.
We will have to wait a couple of weeks to find out just how bad the public spending cuts will be, but I expect the worst. If local and national government cannot find the money to support youth provision, the consequences of dealing with bored and disillusioned young people will in itself have a considerable social and financial cost. Every community and local businesses will have to face up to this issue.
Hi jenjen, Thats the big challenge. When we know the size of the cuts we will know how big the problem is that we face. it would be very easy to say yes we will support everything, truth is we cant. I said in answer to another question, “fight for it but be prepared to be flexible” that would be true here too. Local councils are always more likeley to support those that are prepared to support themselves and fight for what they want. We need to work together to provide services for young and old alike.
