That’s a difficult question to answer until we know the detail of the cut backs, but I would like to hope that youth clubs will continue as before.

They may be affected if the money for the youth workers go or that the money for rent or equipment is stopped. Although this may not happen ,as there are many committed people young and older who want to keep them open and will not close without a fight!!

I sincerely hope they won’t be affected. But when money is short nothing is safe. I hope sense will prevail and that more people will work in a voluntary way as the Brown Owls and Guidersand Scout Leaders do. This would ensure that they continued but the best way is what we have at the moment which is lots of experienced and dedicated youth workers.

The youth service is almost certain to be hit by budget cuts. This means that there will be fewer full-time professional youth workers. What are needed are more volunteers. But I know from bitter experience how hard it is to get people to take on this challenging work. When we started a youth club in our village hall, it closed within two years for lack of adult volunteers.
A youth champion should certainly work with the youth service to increase the pool of volunteers.
