Question: I used to frequently go swimming, Although it becomes expensive at £7.00 a week, is there anyway the five acres leisure centre could arrange a student discount?

Dear Emilylowthian, All the Leisure Centre sites across the Dean which are supported with District Council funds offer a 50% discount scheme to full time students, you will have to show evidence that you are a full time student to claim the discount.

Not sure whether there is any student card assistence, but will phone and ask the question on Monday for you? With regards to transport costs, can you travel with others to share the cost?

This is something that you would have to take up with the Five Acres. There is a discount.card for all Sudents in all the Leisure Centres in the Forest. They should have told you!

I am totally in favour of discount cards for young and older people who have limited means as it is very important that they have access to leisure facilities. This is something that I will look into, although I cannot guarantee that it is possible because as I am sure you are aware Emily everything is being cut, We used to have a discount card for people but I am not sure if it still exists or if students were included but I will ask the question and try to raise the issue as encouraging exercise prevents bad health later on in life,Thank you for raising this issue.

The last government introduces a scheme to provide free swimming for under-16s and OAPs. Unfortunately, the Forest of Dean District Council did not take up the government grant to do this as it would have required some funding from the council.
I understand there is a discount scheme for full-time students and I think that there should be a discount for regular users of our leisure facilities and I recall there being a scheme some years ago. I will check out the situation, but we should be doing everything to maximise the use of our leisure centres, not pricing them out of your reach.

I believe students alreay get 50% discount at the leisure centres Emily. Otherwise it is possible to pay monthly by direct debit, which is a lot cheaper if you are swimming every day.
